Millions of fans are eagerly awaiting news of a scan which will reveal whether Wayne Rooney can play a part in England's World Cup campaign.
The striker will fly back to Manchester from England's base in Germany for the check-up on his broken metatarsal.
The 20-year-old has been pictured kicking a ball in training and coach Sven-Goran Eriksson acknowledged the player's fitness looked "very good."
Rooney will this morning board a private jet from Germany to Manchester with England doctor Leif Sward and head for the Whalley Range private hospital.

Whalley Range hospital where Rooney will have the scan The scan on his metatarsal, which he broke five-and-half weeks ago playing for Manchester United against Chelsea, is due to take place in the early afternoon.
United doctor Tony Gill will discuss the results with Sward and specialists at the hospital.
Eriksson will then be informed by phone how the recovery is progressing and must decide whether Rooney should fly back to Germany and re-join the squad.
If not, his place is expected to be taken by Jermain Defoe of Tottenham but an announcement may not be made until tomorrow morning.
The deadline for a decision on whether to replace Rooney in the squad is Friday afternoon at 2pm, just 24 hours before England's opening game against Paraguay.
